Knotweed control in the Misox Valley and Calanca Valley

As in previous years, teams of Nature Network volunteers are working along the banks of rivers of regional and cantonal importance from Roveredo to Pian San Giacomo and in the Calanca Valley to combat Japanese knotweed ( Fallopia japonica ) by uprooting it. The plant parts are placed in special garbage bags and incinerated to prevent the disease from spreading again.
In this special year for the Misox Valley, some of the areas that were intended for flood control were temporarily inaccessible due to water and sand deposits. Therefore, several passes were made, instead of the two planned in previous years. The Ticino site brought in a mobile support group, which actively pitched in.
We are excited to see how the knotweed population develops in the coming years.
